FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring, enhanced waking state that results in an intensely heightened awareness and focus of the subconscious mind. For example, commuting to work and arriving at your destination with no specific recollection of the journey.
You have the route memorized. Your subconscious mind gets you there while your conscious mind focuses on a daydream, phone call, or wondering what you will have for dinner. Or maybe you've had the experience of being lost in a book, or a television show (which is why commercials are so effective). Although it is a naturally occurring phenomenon, it must be induced. It can be induced naturally, as when you are watching a movie. It can also be induced artificially, by a trained hypnotist. This allows for deeper mental relaxation.
To be induced into a state of hypnosis, you must be a willing participant. While in this heightened state of awareness (the hypnotic state), a person tends to be more responsive to suggestion while fully keeping their willpower and self-control.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?
No, you can not get "stuck" in the hypnotic state. If something uncomfortable were to occur while in hypnosis, you would simply "wake-up". In the other extreme, were you to be so relaxed and tired that while hypnotized you went into full sleep, it would simply be like a nap. You could be woken up, or if left alone, wake-up on your own.
Will I do something against my will or tell you my secrets?
You are always in control, and can hear what's going on. Each suggestion is that... a suggestion. You are in control of what you choose to accept. You will not do anything against your will or your morals just because you are hypnotized. Hypnosis is a natural state you enter into several times a day, more often than you you may realize. Many people enter into a trance while driving, and while nodding off before you enter the sleep state. Maybe you've gotten lost in a book, a television show, or an enjoyable project? While you can feel "lost" in a book (for example), you're never stuck, and always remain in control.
Is Hypnosis Mind Control?
No. This is one of the most common misconceptions about hypnosis mostly because of fictional books and movies. The ONLY person in control of each session is you! You are always fully protected by your conscious mind. A certified hypnotist/hypnotherapist is a guide that is qualified with the tools and methods to help you accomplish the goals you choose to make. Your conscious mind will never accept any suggestions you find illegal, immoral, ethically wrong, or unwanted suggestions at any time.
Stage Hypnosis Shows vs, Hypnosis/Hypnotherapy Sessions:
How the stage hypnosis process works:
Stage hypnosis is a form of entertainment for those who are willing participants. Before the show begins, the stage hypnotist or assistant will begin by looking for people with more extroverted (fun) personalities and asking them specifically if they would like to participate. Next, they will ask them to come up to the stage, and as the process proceeds, will often begin dismissing people one by one based on their comfort levels. If a participant is uncomfortable or asked to do something they aren't willing to do at any time, they will come out of hypnosis. That is why they are thanked and dismissed back to their chairs. A good stage hypnotist will leave their participants with the gift of their choice (suggestions to quit smoking, weight loss, confidence, etc.) and left feeling good about themselves and their experience. NOTE: I don't personally perform stage hypnosis, but I know many great hypnotists who do and have helped many others in the process. How hypnosis and hypnotherapy differs from stage hypnosis: Each session is performed in a professional, comfortable environment, and the client is always kept informed, and updated of all suggestions being made. All sessions are professional, and all information is kept confidential. Each session is recorded, but always kept as part of your confidential record. We provide guidance in each session as well as coaching techniques, information, tips and tools to use for your success. Our only goal is for you to be successful in achieving your goals. |
